Introduction to Manizales

Manizales is located at the top of a mountain in the Colombian Andes in the heart of the Colombian Coffee Region. Being located on a mountain top means that the weather can vary greatly, so, before packing for your Manizales Singles Tour, it would be best to check the weather first!

Manizales is home to 30,000 students attending Manizales 6 colleges and universities. The newer section of Manizales has the feel of an university town. Think Berkeley in the Andes!

As you can see by the photos below, the original settlers built a cable car system to reach the mountain top quickly and easily! An original wooden tower is on display in the city central and a short segment of the more modern steel tower system is also on display.

Manizales is also located close to the volcano Nevado del Ruiz, which is clearly visible from most of the city.

Cultural Events

The Manizales Fair (Feria de Manizales) is the second biggest celebration in Colombia, after the Barranquilla Carnival. The Fair has a very Spanish flavor and begins with Bullfights and with a typical Spanish (Manolas) parade. The International Coffee Beauty Pageant is also a main event of the Fair.

Manizales is also home to the International Festival of Theater City of Manizales, which is one of the major theater events in Latin-America,and the Manizales Jazz Festival.
